Juan Ignacio Molina war ein chilenischer Jesuitenpater und lebte von 1740 bis 1829. In seinem Werk Ensayo sobre la historia natural de Chile beschrieb er zum ersten Mal den Degu und gilt somit als dessen Entdecker.
